Why I never buy insurance

In my working career, many insurance agents approached me to buy all sort of insurance. As we are not familiar with the jargons they use, I just felt very insure to buy any insurance at all. Looking at the reports from the newspaper, I am grateful that I didn't buy anything. Just prudent saving to cover for the rainy days.

Making it hard for claimants
Consult a doc and read the fine print before signing up for a health policy
Hundreds of true-life trials of the insured

My policy of buying insurance, if at all necessary, is to buy "fit for purpose", eg, never buy life insurance to cover house loan. Just a housing loan insurance will do ... cheap and do the job!
Just to clarify, I am concerned about life insurance and critical illness insurance. Terms insurance is a form of saving and is normally straight forward.

Day 2 Chinese New Year

During day one of Chinese new year, most people reserve it for visiting close relatives. During the second day, friends started to visit each other. And that is what we did. We went to a few friends and VVIP houses, I mean they are politician or businessmen.
For a collection of photos, please click here. New year also means ang pow (small money in red package) time. In the good old days, this ang pow is meant for parents to children. Now, they are freely given.

Food to eat and not to eat during CNY

I just realised that you should not eat ...
...  bitter gourd, or anything known to be bitter!

It is  believed that if you eat bitter foods (the Mandarin words for bitter has the same sound as the Mandarin word for suffering), your life in the coming year will be full of trials and tribulations.
The food you should serve on the table is  fish as the Mandarin word for fish “yu” is a homophone for the Mandarin word “abundance”. Fish is best to be served whole, with head and tail, this signifies a whole year’s worth of prosperity, from beginning to the end.
ok, so much about "sound like" Chinese words. Definitely 88 is good plus a 99 is even better. This sound like prospering forever!
Haha... crab! Don't believe the above but just work hard and be healthy to be happy and prosperous. Ask God to bless you and family and pray always.
May God bless your Chinese New Year. If you drive, be safe and arrive safely.

Clothes that poke eye

It is so funny that our Ministry of Defence blamed Google Translate for all the "funny translation". To me, it just shows that our people in MINDEF are sloppy and don't do a first cut validation of the translation or is it that they no longer understand English any more?! It is simply so embarrassing!
By the way, I just wonder whether they understand the instruction manuals that came with all the weapons they bought.
Read main story here.

What are the symptoms of lung disease

What are the symptoms of lung disease - Lung disease is a disease salag very scary, because this disease goes unnoticed terkdang, lung disease should receive special attention from us, so that it can control the health of our lungs, here are some symptoms of lung cancer you should know.

The most common symptoms encountered in patients with lung cancer are:

  • Persistent cough or become great.
  • Bloody sputum, change colors and more.
  • Shortness of breath and shallow.
  • Headache, sore or cracked bone with no apparent cause.
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Selara loss eating or weight loss for no apparent reason.
  • Hoarseness/husky.
  • Swelling in the face or neck.

Symptoms of lung cancer are generally not too obvious, so that most lung cancer patients who seek medical help has been in an advanced stage. Kasusk-case early stage / early often found accidentally when someone makes a routine medical examination.

Some procedures that can facilitate the diagnosis of lung cancer include X-ray, Thoracic CT Scan, Fine Needle Biopsies, Bronchoscopy, and USG Abdomen.

Treatment of lung cancer can be done in ways such as

  1. Surgery by removing any part of one lung - sometimes in excess of the discovery of the tumor and remove all the lymph nodes affected by cancer.
  2. Radiotherapy or radiation with high intensity X-rays to kill cancer cells.
  3. Chemotherapy
  4. Taking the drugs orally with certain side effects which aims to prolong survival.
Benefits Xanthones not just an antioxidant, but also anticancer like Moongkarndi research. Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University researchers tested the Xanthones in preclinical research with the alias SKBR3 human breast cancer cell cultures. The result? Mangosteen peel extract is a powerful antiproliferasi to inhibit cancer cell growth. In addition it is also apoptotic extract or support the destruction of cancer cells.

How to Treat Lung Cancer Disease

How to Treat Lung Cancer Disease - Lung cancer is the growth of cancer cells that are not controlled in the lung tissue. Pathogenesis of lung cancer has not really understood. Looks like bronchial mucosal cells metaplastik changes in response to chronic exposure of the particles are inhaled and injure lungs. In response to cellular injury, inflammatory reactions and processes will evolve.

Mucosal basal cell proliferation and would have differentiated into mucus-secreting goblet cells. Looks like metaplastik activity occurs due to change of columnar epithelium lining the epithelium skuamus, which is accompanied by cellular atipia and increased mitotic activity that develop into mucosal dysplasia. Span of time this process has not been established, only approximately estimated between 10 to 20 years.

More than 90% of lung cancers originated from the bronchus, until the cancer is called carcinoma bronkogenik, which consists of:

  1. Skuamus cell carcinoma

  2. Small cell carcinoma

  3. Large cell carcinoma

  4. Lung adenocarcinoma

Alveolar cell carcinoma originating from the alveoli in the lungs. This cancer can be a single growth, but often strike more than one area in the lung.

  1. Lung tumors are less common are:

  2. Adenomas (can be malignant or benign)

  3. Kondromatous hamartoma (benign)

  4. Sarcomas (malignant)

Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymph system, which can be derived from the lung or is spread from other organs. Many cancers that originate from other places to spread to the lungs. This cancer usually comes from the breast, colon, prostate, kidney, thyroid, stomach, cervix, rectum, testicles, bone and skin.

Smoking is a major cause of about 90% of cases of lung cancer in men and about 70% in women. The more cigarettes smoked, the greater the risk for lung cancer.

Only a small proportion of lung cancers (about 10% -15% in men and 5% in women) caused by or inhaled substances encountered in the workplace. Working with asbestos, radiation, arsenic, chromate, nickel, chloromethyl ethers, mustard gas and coke oven emissions can cause lung cancer, although usually only occurs in workers who also smoke.

The role of air pollution as a cause of lung cancer is still unclear. Some cases occur because of exposure by radon gas in the household. Sometimes lung cancer (particularly adenocarcinoma and alveolar cell carcinoma) occurred in people who already have lung scarring due to other lung diseases, like tuberculosis and fibrosis.

Vitamin B Prevent Lung Cancer

Vitamin B Prevent Lung Cancer - Vitamin B is better known for maintaining good brain health. But the new study suggests vitamin B also lowers the risk of lung cancer, even in smokers.

A study of 400,000 people showed that levels of vitamin B6 and amino acids methionin enough in the body will reduce the risk of lung cancer by half. Nevertheless, the experts emphasized that quitting smoking is much more effective for preventing lung cancer.

"Increasing your intake of vitamin B will never be the same effect with if we stop smoking," said Dr.Panagiota Mitrou from the World Cancer Research Fund, one of the researchers.

Research is still preliminary in nature is certainly need further research to prove whether the vitamin is widely available in nuts, fish, or meat is indeed effective in preventing lung cancer.

Even so, the former smokers or people who have never smoked can still do something positive, such as sufficient for vitamin B, to reduce the risk of lung cancer.

Cancer Diseases Increasingly Threaten You

Cancer Disease more Threaten - Cancer has become the leading cause of death worldwide. The incidence rate and the greater the burden of cancer. Globally, cancer deaths exceeds the number of people with AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis.

However, without any meaningful action to prevent premature death from cancer, the disease will continue to kill millions of people across the face of the earth. To stop the increase in deaths from cancer, needs urgent action from governments, individuals, and community health.

The World Cancer Congress to-21 in Shenzen, China, 18-21 August, which was held the International Union Against Cancer (UICC), UICC President David Hill said, the reduction of the global cancer epidemic has become one of the urgent global health priorities. Therefore, the global cancer community must continue to discuss and work together to promote the importance of prevention, screening, detection, and treatment and effective management.

Congress of the theme of prevention of preventable diseases, treat patients who can be treated, through a system of expectations into reality. This conference discusses cancer prevention, screening or screening, early detection, early treatment, and support for special treatment, hospital care, and other problems.

Based on data released by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, one of the agencies under the UN World Health Organization, global cancer patients reached 12.7 million people in 2008 and resulted in the death of 7.6 million people. In 2030 predicted there will be 21.4 million new cancer cases with 13.2 million deaths.

Cancer can continue to be a deadly disease, said Otis W. Brawley, because of the swift industrialization and the adoption of Western lifestyles. In addition, population growth and aging will also increase the cancer cases.

Patients with cancer in the world is lung cancer (12.7 percent), breast cancer (10.9 percent), and colon cancer (9.7 percent). As many as 58 percent of cancer cases occur in poor and developing countries as well as mortality reached 63 percent.

While the causes of cancer deaths globally is the highest lung cancer (18.2 percent), followed by stomach cancer, and liver cancer. If visible location, in developing countries more cases of cervical cancer and liver cancer. In developed countries the most dominant is prostate cancer and colon cancer.

When viewed by gender, based on data from the World Health Organization (WHO), among men, the highest mortality occurred in patients with lung cancer, stomach, liver, and colon. As for the cancer among women breast, lung, stomach, colon, and uterus.

Cancer Can be prevented

Hill said, is actually one-third of all cancer cases are preventable. Almost most or about 40 percent incidence of lifestyle factors caused cancer, infectious diseases, and environmental or work-related hazardous substances.

"That means the potential to prevent cancer. Necessary adaptation of global, national, and individuals to prove if these factors were addressed, cases and cancer deaths can be reduced, "said Hill.

In developing countries, triggering the high incidence of cancer is tobacco use, alcohol, eat less vegetables and fruits, as well as chronic infections of hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and some types of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).

Prevention strategies by increasing avoidance on the factors above, vaccination against HPV and hepatitis B virus, control the intake of substances hazard, and reduce exposure to sunlight.

In controlling the increase of cancer in the world, according to Otis W. Bradley of the American Cancer Society, said the current message should be heavily echoed this is early detection saves lives.

Early detection can reduce the burden of one-third of cases of cancer if detected and treated early. Early detection of cancer based on the observation that treatment is more effective when cancer is detected early. The aim is to detect cancer when it is local (not spread).

Tobacco products

From a number of lifestyle factors that trigger the emergence of cancer, tobacco use could be one of the main factors preventing the most widespread cancer in the world today. Tobacco causes 80-90 percent of deaths from lung cancer and about 30 percent of deaths from cancer in developing countries.

Control of tobacco products which harm their own health became a serious issue discussed in the world cancer congress this time. Ala Alwan, Assistant Director-General of the World Health Organization, said the cigarette the most risk for non-comunnicable diseases, like heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and chronic lung disease.

Therefore, there should be a comprehensive strategy, including the prohibition of advertisements and sponsorship of tobacco products, increasing taxes on tobacco, and intensify programs to reduce tobacco consumption. This initiative has demonstrated effective results reduce the number of cancer deaths. Unfortunately, not all countries implement the necessary interventions.

Only about 9 percent of the country that mandates smoke-free bars and restaurants as well as 65 states reported implementing tobacco-free policies at the national level.

Infectious diseases cause nearly 22 percent of deaths in developing countries and 6 percent in industrialized countries.

The world needs to join hands to make the cancer is no longer a major killer. The challenge that control the global increase in cancer cases, found a treatment that does not torture people, and improve survival.

Tuberculosis Patients More Prone to Lung Cancer

Tuberculosis Patients More Prone to Lung Cancer - People with tuberculosis disease must now be more vigilant in maintaining their health condition. Research experts in Taiwan showed that those who suffer from tuberculosis have a tendency to 11 times more likely to have lung cancer.

The conclusion was made after scientists looked at more than 700,000 people selected at random for six years, including 4480 people diagnosed with TB disease.

"The incidence of lung cancer in patients with TB accounting for 11 times higher compared with patients without TB. This study proves the importance of preventing lung cancer through the campaign against TB," said Chen Chih-yi, a researcher from the China Medical University in Taichung city center , Taiwan.

The findings, published in the Journal of Thoracic Oncology January issue that supports the link between TB and lung cancer, which had previously been predicted but not yet proven.

"TB is the most common chronic diseases in the world. Patients are most contagious disease exists in the developing and less advanced. Lung cancer is also commonly known as related to smoking. Attention is less focused on people with TB who are also at high risk for lung cancer, "said Chen.

1 of 5 Lung Cancer Patients are Nonsmokers

Lung cancer is the leading cause of death in the cancer group, both in women and men. Although 80 percent of patients with lung cancer are smokers, but 1 in 5 patients with this cancer are not smokers.

Quoting data in the United States, deaths from lung cancer each year reaching 40,000 per year. The female non-smokers are also two times greater risk of dying from lung cancer as well as ovarian cancer.

Because it's true experts claim is no longer appropriate if lung cancer is referred to as the disease of smokers.

"If we have a lung then we can get lung cancer. Cancer is now the same as cancer that attacks other organs," said Linda Wenger, executive director of Uniting Against Lung Cancer.

The experts said the stigma surrounding smoking habits attached to lung cancer, which is called as a disease that sought his own, has reduced public sympathy for patients and lead to lack of funding to research this disease.

"Research in lung cancer as a stepchild in the family of cancer because of the influence of stigma," said Holli Kawadler, a cancer researcher. He pointed out, funding for breast cancer research every year to reach 27,000 U.S. dollars, while for lung cancer only 1400 U.S. dollars.

Nevertheless, scientists slowly began to understand the causes of this cancer in nonsmokers. One fact is women non-smokers have a greater risk than men, which is two to one.

Although the exact cause is unclear, but, like a tumor in the breast, lung cancer aggressiveness is influenced by estrogen.
